Sometimes Dippers Just Need a Rest

This is such a busy time for them, dredging the river bottom for crunchy crustaceans and gooey worms (see extra) for their youngsters. This one seemed to be having a lovely time, alternately preening and sleeping, whilst his mate got on with feeding of the brood behind the waterfall. The white eyelids are extra ones that dippers have to protect their eyes underwater but they can see through them.
