King's X

Had a good overnight stay in London this weekend. Saw Heaven 17 at Shepherds Bush Empire last night (formerly home to Hancock's Half Hour, Crackerjack, The Generation Game, The Val Doonican Music Show and, er, Jim'll Fix It. Sorry. Anyway, it's like a rollcall of Saturday night when you were growing up, isn't it?). They played all their hits, some early Human League stuff and a mesmerising tribute to Billy Mackenzie by way of a cover of The Associates' Party Fears 2, which is one of my favourite pop singles of the 1980s, fo sho.
Today we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum to see their Hollywood Costumes exhibition. They had the red slippers from The Wizard of Oz! Yes, really, friends of Dorothy! I found myself comparing how tall the actors wearing the outfits in the films are to me. De Niro, Mel Gibson and Travolta match up to me, height-wise. While Beatty, Hanks, Will Smith and Harrison Ford are taller. Johnny Depp's shortarsed while Arnie isn't as tall as you think he might be.
This photo was taken in the newly revamped concourse at Kings Cross station on the way home. Isn't it smart? But there still aren't enough places to sit while you wait. Boo, Network Rail! Boo!
