Orton Festival - backblip

Sunday 3rd June

Weather better today but still overcast. On the recommendation of our site owner we went to the lovely village of Orton, about 15 miles from Kendal, where it was the last day of the village's exhibition of the Four Seasons in the Church and the annual Scarecrow Festival. We wandered all through the village (I wouldn't mind living there) seeing all the themed Scarecrows in people's doorways and gardens and then to the church to admire the amazing work of the villagers and parishioners in creating a huge display of the 4 seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Fantastic work. The church also provided tea and cake and cream teas - we had the latter.

After that we went to Appleby where they were preparing for the annual horse Fair starting on Thursday. There were some trotting races in the morning and plenty of guys with their horses and traps having a few drinks outside a local hostelry - the men, not the horses!

Thank you to all who have kindly looked in on me whilst we've been our current TravelswithMatilda but I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with all of you. It's now Tuesday and we're on our way home today so hopefully normal service might be resumed?!
