Highly Unsprung

Busker Ed

Where do I start? I loved this day. An early start with a 6am stomp on the hill and a 7.30am train. A journey, a meet up, a gig, a tired trek home.

My favourite part? Probably eating alfresco. A mouth watering tasty Italian meal. Botanist gin on tap. The girls reunited, Aberdeenshire meets Belfast in Glasgow, as though they'd never been apart. The easy company of Val and Mel. Knowing Mel was happy. It was lovely. A day of teenage shopping. What Glasgow is known for. A chance to speak on shared interests with Mel while the girls "got ready"...apparently this takes two hours, but they made a concession at 90 minutes. Then the farcical journey to the gig, the small central station queue of 10 we naively mistook for the real queue of 2000 leading up and down the station, outside and round the block! We eventually arrived with no time to spare, indeed we sat down, just as Busker Ed took to the stage. All my anxieties of not believing our tickets would be accepted vanished. The girls were enthralled. The seats were excellent, undercover, easy access to catering, loos, the essentials. My first time at Hampden.

And what about Ed? Okay, I'm not a real fan, this trip was all about Tess and Georgie and to catch up with Mel. But total respect to this man, on his own, that can effortlessly command 55,000 of a crowd, take them with him in their entirety, engage with them, bring a souless stadium together and feel alive, natural with no ego, and... eventually...make a cynical wench (moi) take to her feet. He was very good, totally delivered, and undeniably talented. You'd be a bitter soul not to recognise that.

A long walk home, along with thousands of others. But all part of the adventure. And what's a good night out if it is not to be finished off with munchies from a hotel vending machine. 1pm and to bed.

Viva Glasgow!!
Viva alfresco catch ups!
Viva friends and family!
