A Walk Through Deb's Life

Aimless City Views

On Saturday I reluctantly agreed to go to a huge bike swap meet with Mr. Mellow at McCormick Place convention center in downtown Chicago. It was a fine day to get out and go for a drive into the city. The swap meet turned out to be entertaining as well. He was looking for bike parts and there were plenty of parts to be found, but he didn't find what he wanted. He did run into some old buddies from a bike repair shop that he used to frequent years back. I know he enjoyed that, I could tell by his mellow demeanor. Afterwards we drove around the city somewhat aimlessly, as we searched for a Mexican restaurant we had seen reviewed on TV recently. Neither of us could recall the name, the neighborhood, or obviously the address. We drove north, called our daughter, and while she aimlessly searched the internet for us (with no name it was a big job for her). "I think it starts with a 'C'" we told her. Then headed south and called her husband who was golfing in California. He understands a dining emergency, so he stopped what he was doing to also search on his Blackberry for us. Have I told you how much I adore this man? He found it and gave us the address, but we still didn't find it. We were hopelessly lost by then. We ate at another good Mexican restaurant. It was still a great day and I learned once again that reluctance should be ignored.

I snapped this photo from the Lakeshore Drive pedestrian bridge looking north at the skyline of Chicago. Lake Michigan is off in the distance to the right and Soldier Field stadium, where the Bears play, is in the center with the sun reflecting on it.

Edit: Soldier Field has undergone a major rennovation in 2002 (?). Check the link above if you like. They retained part of the original greek-like columns (very center of photo to the left of the shiny new part). It's difficult to tell from this angle but the new stadium is very odd looking, some say it looks like a huge UFO landed on top of the old stadium.
