Achievement

Wednesday did become a bit chaotic. I was tired and was not in the mood.

However I counted to 10 several times, and only used a bad word once.

Tonight was lesson 24 of my level 1 Gaelic course, and the final lesson. What an interesting journey it has been, from knowing only a few words of one of my native languages to being able to understand about half of the weather forecast on the radio.

Understanding half a weather forecast is a key skill.

It has been tough at times, but a lot of fun too, and very rewarding. The whole class (8 of us) wants to continue into the level 2 course in August.

I had several reasons for deciding to learn the language. Politics was not one of them. Some rather sad and inadequate sections of society (monoglots, usually) try to politicise the language and divert from the facts - the minority language protection laws are EU law which the UK had to implement, and it was done in the Scottish Parliament with 100% cross party backing in 2005.

The Blip is the library/sports centre/primary school complex where we have been attending the classes. Not much of a Blip (sounds familiar) but opportunities were minimal today. OK, my summer holiday starts tomorrow so it’s time to figure out what’s going in the suitcase.
