On The Dales Way

I walked down to the village for a 6.45 am pick up by Ailie. Chris and her dog Poppy arrived a few minutes later. We discussed how crazy we must be to drive 2.5 hours or more to Buckden in Yorkshire to continue our endeavour to walk The Dales Way, a walk of 84 miles. We started last year and did a couple of days,.

On arrival at Buckden parked up and waited for Margaret to arrive then got the 9,35 bus down the valley to Grassington, where we’d finished last year. We found the path and had a lovely day climbing out of the village and over grassy leas, limestone “pavements”, past a 19th century lime kiln, then up onto the tops before dropping down to meet the Wharfe at Kettlewell, where we had a welcome half pint.

The day started out cool, but the sun came out and it was just right for walking. The last 4 miles seemed long up the river to Buckden but we’d had a great day, and drove home in good spirits. We’ll all sleep tonight!
