Batumi on the Black Sea

We had an early start for our 3 hour very hot drive to Batumi. On arrival we went to the Botanical Gardens, created in 1912, where there were some very tall trees and a fish pond with these frogs..

Then it was the so-called old town with its bizarre architectural mishmash. Some Grecian temple-the structure, tall towers with Ferris wheels attached, glittery statues of Medea and many casinos. We walked to the sea and I dipped in my toes, not easy with the big pebbles and the deeply shelved shore.

We tried to get a fish lunch but the fish was off. Despite this being by the Black Sea, the Georgians don’t eat fish. We ended up with a picnic in the park, trying to find shade in the 36 degrees, and then retreated to one nice little bar for a cold drink, just waiting to get the bus for the 3 hour journey back.

I’m sure things will be different tomorrow, but so far Georgia isn’t a patch on Armenia.
