The Great Barn

We left Cirencester this morning to travel home. We decided not to take the motorway but to head cross country to Bradford on Avon. We stopped there a few years ago whilst on a narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon and thought we'd like to see more of it.

We started with a coffee at the delightful Bridge Tea Rooms then had a walk around the town and down the river to Barton Grange where this tithe barn stands. It's  huge (51 metres by 9.5 metres) and built like a church with flying buttresses and that sort of stuff. It's unknown how old it it but roof timbers have been dated to 1330. My main blip is of one of the smaller porch doors taken from inside.

I've added an extra of the barn interior and one looking across the river in Bradford on Avon.

My shots are a bit noisy today. Somehow my camera got set to ISO 25600 which doesn't tend to improve the quality.
