The Lady and the Line

The border which ran, straight as a rule for over a hundred miles, between the two countries owed its nature to a woman who had never set foot on the continent. Sitting in her office in Whitehall, she had inked the line, handed the map over to an underling and moved on to the next item from her “In” tray.
