Early morning, bright flashes of light off glass as I watered the plants, building into a migraine. I retreated from the sunshine, took some painkillers and sat quietly indoors to finish my book.

Meanwhile, some ominous and beautiful clouds gathered over the house, heralds of a brief but very loud thunderstorm. I quickly took some photos of my favourite flowers in case they were bashed about by the weather, but in the event, the rain only lasted for about 15 minutes. The air cleared and so did my head, and we were able to spend the rest of the afternoon in the garden, enjoying the sunshine and the company of Carol, who came round for tea.
