~Apache Plume Flower~

~Fallugia Paradoxa~

This desert plant in my yard has almost a rose like look, large rounded petal and a prominent center filled with many stamens and pistils. The ovary of the flower remains after the white petals fall away, leaving plumelike lavender feathers. The plant is covered with these dark pinkish clusters of curling feathers after flowering, hence the name Apache Plume. They are very reminiscent of some of the decorations adorning the headdresses of Apache Nation Chiefs.

Nice to see you coming by, TucsonJim ;o)
