Vienna - Prater (Backblip)

Hubby and I drove our friend to Vienna this morning as she has an early flight tomorrow (Monday). I wanted to take her to a restaurant in the famous Prater area. It consists of public gardens, Happel sport stadium, and the oldest amusement park in the world.
The Schweizerhaus (Swiss House) serves the renowned Stelzen or smoked pork knee. It is served on a wooden board with a sharp knife plonked in the middle to carve up the moist, tender meat and the crispiest, tastiest crackling I have ever had. It is accompanied by a cabbage salad, bread, mustard and fresh grated horse radish. We also had Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) smothered in garlic. (Salivating yet?)
The place was heaving and we saw lots of men in red T Shirts and I was thinking, oh no, not another bucks party. Then we realised there were too many for one buck and they had scarves and flags and Austria's crest on the T Shirts.Hubby said that the nearby Happel Stadium had a football match today between Austria and Brazil. We managed to find space on a table in the garden (in Austria people don't mind sharing). The enormous garden can seat 1700 guests and every one of them were taken. There were people standing up drinking a Budweiser (the Czech one) as well.It was impossible to get a photo to show the feel of the crowded space or the waiters charging around with trays loaded with drinks and food. I didn't even get a good photo of our meal but you can check the link below. I did, however, like this unaware shot of my gorgeous friend.
We were served relatively quickly and everything was up to expectation. Our departure was delayed a little by a thunderstorm but 2/3 of the restaurant is under cover and it didn't last long like yesterday's in Prague. We wandered around the amusement park and took a ride on the Riesenrad (giant wheel) for the first time. I have blipped it before before but not from this angle (see extras).
