Foulshaw Moss

Mrs. K’s birthday choice for this morning was to visit Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Reserve at Foulshaw Moss. This is only 20 minutes drive and fortunately the weather has not yet broken so it was warm and with some sun.

There are Ospreys on their nest. There is usually a warden there with a telescope which you need to see them.

But for us the greatest joy is the very extensive boardwalk through the moss and its pools.

Hundreds of damsel and dragonflies and butterflies. Many different beetles, though they are harder to find.

My main blip is a female Large Skipper (the one with its tongue out). The two extras show a male Large Skipper ( dark mark on its wing) and a Four Spotted Chaser.

A grand morning followed by a good birthday lunch.
