CannyScot's Day

Scone Palace

A dull, overcast day

We decided to visit Scone Palace today after our unsuccessful attempt on Saturday.

The Palace has an exciting and colourful history as one of Scotland's most important stately homes. Fifteen hundred years ago it was the capital of the Picts.

In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of the Kings of Scots, including Macbeth and Robert The Bruce. The Palace houses an outstanding collection of antiques, paintings and rare artifacts and the grounds are renowned throughout the world, making the stateley home one of the most popular tourist attractions in both Perth and Scotland.

We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing works of art, furniture and architecture inside the Palace. The grounds are extensive and include a replica of the Stone of Destiny. One of the surprises was a white Peacock in full display!

Although the weather wasn't as good as we would have liked it was a thoroughly enjoyable visit and would recommend it to anyone.
If you would like to see photos of the grounds, including the white peacock, have a look at my Flikr Album here.
