Another lime kiln

I find out that Kendal used to be a commercial centre for the production of lime with 12 commercial kilns in the town.  That's excluding the farmers' ones like the one I found the other day. There is a LOT of limestone around so it makes sense. Apparently the Lancaster to Kendal canal was nicknamed the black and white canal;  coal came from Lancaster and limestone went back . Just one kiln survives, saved in 2009 and now a scheduled ancient monument.  This is where they shovelled the limestone in. On the right is my free coffee from Booths- the Waitrose of the North. I am told soon I will have to take my reusable cup in to get a free coffee.  In extras is the double oven below.
