Scottish wildcat, a dying breed?

Taken today at the highland wildlife park near Aviemore, this is a Scottish wildcat. I caught it as it was walking across an enclosed tree-top pathway. It was very dull and in the midst of trees, and since my photography skills are in their infancy, it is not the best of shots. Nonetheless, it was my favourite sight of the day. I saw in fact around 8 wildcats, including a number of kittens.

It is estimated that there may be less than 400 pure Scottish wildcats left to roam the highlands of Scotland. Significantly fewer than many more "popular" species that receive much greater attention and support. It would be a tragedy if we did not save this very special creature.
