Wound up in Wexford

The cascade

We've been having problems with the pond - it was losing water.  We switched off the pump, and by a process of elimination, it seemed to be losing from the little rill or cascade.  Our pond man was puzzled, because the pond liner is under the entire structure.

He came once and applied some special cement - this didn't work.  So to preserve water, the pump has been switched off for several months whilst we waited for him to try something else.

He came again a few days ago, and used some mastic type filler.  It seems to have done the trick.  It's early days, but in the meanwhile, it's nice to hear the running water again.  Once we're happy that the channel is watertight, we can replace all the smaller stones and this will improve the sound by breaking up the flow.

Fortunately, we have plenty of oxygenator weed in the pond, so are not dependent on the cascade to keep it healthy.  The lack of running water hasn't bothered the many dragonflies, damsel flies and other wildlife.
