A view from St Swithin

Doune

We are still on holiday this week and managed to get a cheap hotel break in the Trossachs.
On the way over we stopped for a coffee in Doune - a pretty little place with lots of history. There is a large Roman Fort and also a rather splendid castle. We did the audio tour of the castle and I learnt a bit of Scottish history that I will forget within 24 hours. More recently the castle was used in the filming of “ Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and some scenes from Outlander. The latter is a popular TV show and book ( I believe ) and probably explain why the castle was full of teenagers and bus parties. The blip is of the old Mercat Cross.
