A Royal Outing

This morning I landed from DC - LATE - because of a mechanical problem we’d had last night. I was just glad we didn’t cancel! Because I had PLANS today! I had just enough time to get home to shower and change and then went with a group of people from church to walk through Windsor Great Park for a picnic. This wasn’t just any old walk. The purpose of THIS walk was to end up along the route where the Queen and other members of the Royal Family would come past in their coaches on their way to the first day of the races at Ascot.

We were not alone, of course! There were hundreds of others lined up, many who were dressed up and having elaborate picnics. Ours was a more casual affair. There was a great atmosphere and even the police were very much enjoying the day. One happily swapped hats with a little boy who proudly marched back and forth with his policeman’s hat on! Some of the police cars and then some of the chauffeurs drove past waving animal hand puppets for the children.

But the main event of course was the Royal Family, and we were not disappointed - the Queen looked so happy, as did Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie and of course the newlyweds, Prince Harry and Meghan. My only disappointment was that Meghan was looking the other way as she passed. (See extra photos)

It was a great outing, and well worth the effort even though I was exhausted (and fell asleep on the way home). It’s not every day we get so close to the Royals.
