Carol's ramblings

York -Day 3

Bit further afield today, a trip this morning to Fountains Abbey and Royal Studley water gardens near Ripon. The Abbey ruins are a
amazing. Today they had a number of artists doing landscape painting with around 8 contestants for the Challenge to be landscape artist of the year - it was being filmed, to be aired later in the year on Sky Arts channel. Didn’t see any famous actors- Joan Bakewell hosts it as well as Steven Mangham.

Lots to see and plenty of walks. Stopped for a cold drink sand comfort break to admire the scenery. On our way back stopped at St Mary’s church on the same estate - owned by Heritage Trust but managed by National Trust.

Drove back to Beningbrough Hall to have lunch andview the house. Had to encounter a toll bridge! Although it was only 40p, it felt like those bridges that are driven over in films where the ridge is collapsing after you as you go ...... or that’s the sound it was making! Scarey.

Beautiful house at Beningbrough, has an exhibition on at the moment recognising women as part of the 100 years - the struggle for suffrage. The house also has a number of beautiful paintings on loan from the National
Portrait a Gallery. :)

Off to the seaside tomorrow :)
