Carol's ramblings

York - Day 2

After a good nights sleep and breakfast, off to the Park and ride for a trip into York City.

York Minster not open until 1pm, so visited the Treasurer’s House (a NT property). Previously owned by Frank Green, it’s claim to fame is the Prince and Princess of Wales stayed there for 3 nights before they were Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Frank Green gave the house to NT in 1930, moving away from Yorkshire, spending his last 20 years in Somerset.

Stopped for lunch - where else but Betty’s Tea Room :)

Then on to York Minster - a large and impressive Cathedral. Decided a trip up the tower was not for us but managed to wander around the rest of this grand building. The magnificent stained glass window in the Rast end (The Great East Window), has just been through a major restoration. The window was made between 1405 and 1408, one of the finest medieval stained glass windows in the world. [photo of the outside and the inside].

Caught the bus back to the car and visited The Wetherby Whaler for a fish tea - yummy :)

Just watching England play now ..........
