H. G. Wells, pupil

Out to supper with a friend, I spotted an interesting plaque on the wall of a small cottage in a side street. It showed where the great science fiction writer Herbert George Wells once went to school, firing his imagination to grow up to produce distinguished literature. Dame school? An early type of private elementary education, taught by women and located in the teacher’s home. Bravo Mrs Knott!
