30 Days Wild Day 25 - Pineapple Mayweed

Today's opportunity for "30 Days Wild" blips was a stop in a lay-by on the way back from filling the car in Penrith.  One thing this Wildlife Trust 30 days wild has shown me is that within any few yards of roadside there is a huge variety of wild things.

Today's blip is Matricaria discoidea often known just as Mayweed rather than Pineapple Mayweed.  The plant has been used medicinally in the past.  Mainly for intestinal problems.  A native of North America and N Asia it arrived in the UK in the late 1890s and within 25 years had spread along roads covering most of Britain.
