Wide Angle Wednesday - Fisheye Marmolada

When we came here skiing in March Jane was recovering from her broken ankle and wasn't skiing.   It wasn't possible for her to get over to this glacier  from Arabba so I felt sorry she had missed it.  I therefore said I would bring her back in the summer and take her up - which I did today.

We were first in the queue at 9am and went up with 4 other people.  This contrasts with the 1 hour queue I experienced in March.   We visited the war museum up the mountain which catalogs the terrible conditions which the Austrians and Italians had to endure while blowing each other to pieces on this same mountain.  One interesting quote was along the lines of the fact that they didn't do it out of hate.  They were basically farmers who lived in neighbouring valleys and who went climbing together before the war made them into enemies.

I decided to try out the Samyang fisheye and rather like the effect.  Compare it with the shot from the same spot in March

We set off back home around 11am and have had a rather horrendous journey with terrible traffic and pouring rain.   Austria wasn't pleasant.  However, once we got onto the German Autobahn we sped along and made up time.  We are back on schedule in a nice quiet site near Stuttgart.

One more drive tomorrow will get us near Calais in time to watch England vs Belgium tomorrow evening.  Then home Friday.

While on the subject of football,  I tried not to mention it to the German campsite owner tonight following their defeat to South Korea and exit from the tournament

I don't think the Germans have a word for schadenfreude ;-)
