Quod oculus meus videt

Weasel, the Boobook Owl

After yesterday's temperatures in the Central Lakes, we headed towards the coast, visiting Muncaster Castle.  It was much cooler with a gentle breeze cooling the temperatures to something much more bearable.

The highlight for us were the hawk and owl displays, a relatively recent addition to the attractions, but something we felt made the cost of admission more than worthwhile.  The production qualities of the shows were exceptional and it was the best show of this type we have seen.

Right at the end of the day we were allowed to watch as they gave a new, seven week old Boobook Owl some training on flying to the hand.  We were able to get really close, making focus critical so I was really chuffed to home in on the eye.  You can see some of his baby fluff coming off as he flies to his trainer.

I'd started the day back at Rydal water, this time concentrating on the northern end of the lake.  I've added an extra from that morning walk.
