salmon run

The water in the river is high after a lengthy rainfall. The salmon are swimming up stream. Many people are gathered on the banks of the Cowichan River. Some fish with poles while First Nations people use spears to catch fish.

Even the Royal Canadian Mounted Police came to the river. I saw two constables on the train bridge. They were in conversation with a small group of people that had gathered on the bridge.

Many dead salmon in the river that stink. And sea gulls eat the dead salmon.

The photograph was taken from the Trans Canada Highway bridge looking down onto the Cowichan River.
