Chateau with a wacky collection

Yesterday we arrived in Savigny les Beaune for three nights. This morning we visited the Chateau which has a very unique collection of redundant fighter planes dating from the 50s, 60s and 70s. In the chateau''s beautiful grounds there were also old helicopters, fire engines and apparently tractors, although we did not find these .Extra of the aeroplanes.

Inside the Chateau there were rooms full of old motorbikes and Abarth (fiat) old racing cars. There were thousands of model aircraft,, cars etc. Someone has been very busy building these Airfix models.

The cellars were full of old wine presses and paraphernalia with stalactites coming from the ceilings. Another extra.

The grounds have premier cru vineyards and the only refreshments they serve is a degustation of their wines. Not a bottle of water or ice cream in sight.

We had a lovely lunch at the brasserie on
the square where we ate last night. But by 3pm we were desperate for a cold drink in soaring temperatures of 35+. Not a shop or bar was open and we had to drive into Beaune to purchase some Schweppes and bottles of water.

A lovely drive back throigh the vineyards but not a single place to stop for refreshments.

We booked a table for our evening meal in the only restaurant open and were the only ones eating there. The owner is front of house, waiter, chef etc. I don't know what happens when he has a full house. The meal was very tasty.

For someone who despises the cold and loves to be out in the sunshine, I never thought I would find the heat unbearable and wish it were cooler. I want to walk through the vineyards tomorrow so fingers crossed for a cooler day.
