The Last Mantis

The last mantis left in the greenhouse, or anywhere for that matter, is still going. She feels the cold badly and seems to be paralysed when the temperature is below about 5ºC. This morning she was high under the polythene roof, barely a centimetre away from feathery frost patterns. Later, when the sunshine warmed the greenhouse she came to life, actively stalking the heat-seeking flies.
