Front yard, early in the morning. The ground is wet, and a little damp stuff is coming out of the sky. You can hear dripping in the drainpipe. The newspaper's been delivered in a plastic bag. I find of couple of very wet bees, seemingly asleep in their chosen flowers, elegant and bejeweled beds. Movement out of the corner of my eye: a young possum crosses the sidewalk just a few feet from where I'm standing, zips under Mr S's truck and disappears. He's mostly snout and tail, pink and determined as he scuttles along. This tiny grasshopper is another surprise. Look at those long legs, and that enormous antenna!
