St.Brannoc’s Well

Braunton

Where would an oddyssey be without a well to see you on your way?
I was hopeful that St.Brannoc would work his magic, not sure he has, but he guided me up the narrowing lane to this holy well on the site of an ancient medieval chapel that had become a ruin by the 18th century. There is now a modern chapel of ease that was built on the site in 1957 (extra). It is thought that St.Brannoc came across from either South Wales or floated over in a stone coffin, as you do, from Ireland, to establish a monastery here.

Also extra of sunrise this 5.19 a.m. this morning before setting off to a drizzly St.Agnes.
