Bodø

Arrived in Bodø (which appears to be pronounced Booda) to cool and grey weather.

We walked into town, about 1 km away, and had the inevitable coffee. We wanted to see if we could get a fast ferry trip to the Lofoten Islands - but couldn’t find a suitable schedule.

We went to the Nordland Museum - the highlight (!) of which was the dry fish exhibition. I assumed it was going to be about the local dried fish industry, but it turns out to be Norway’s only waterless aquarium. I kid you not! It was a simply a display cabinet against a blue painted wall, upon which were mounted lots of models of fish. Just to add to the experience, there were buttons on the front of the cabinet with the names of the different types of fish. When you pressed a button the eyes of a model would light up so that you could see what that fish looked like!

What with that and the displays of different brands of sardine and herring cans, we couldn’t stand the excitement and walked back towards the ship. £14 well spent I thought!

On our journey we stumbled upon a fabric and quilting shop - so we had to go in. The owner of the shop took pity on me and showed me to a sofa and plied me with cake and coffee whilst Mrs madwill was shopping.

The blip shot is the view from the top deck of our ship looking over the harbour - I waited for ages for a patch of sunlight to move along and over the hills to give them some sort of texture.
