Day 4 Oberland Alpine Trek

Mutthornhutte

A wet and stormy day, with very dramatic views every now and again when the sun broke through. We walked from the deep valley, along the Tschingelfirn Glacier, finally wearing all the climbing gear so the rucksacks felt light! We popped up from the glacier to the old Mutthornhutte (see extra), greeted by the guardian with hot “welcome tea” and chocolate. We were very glad to strip off our wet clothes. Arriving mid afternoon in alpine huts means drinking lots of hot soup and eating fruit pie. After all you just spent lots of calories to get there! The downside of this is the toilet is a “long-drop” and therefore well away from the hut.... and it hail stoned or rained for much of the evening.
