Sgwarnog: In the Field

Ospreys

Llyn Brenig has become the fifth breeding site for Ospreys in Wales, and here are the first pair (and offspring in there somewhere) to have bred in Denbighshire for over 100 years.

Brother #2 and I spent an hour or so watching them this morning from the far side of the lake. A number of platforms had been erected over the past few years in the hope that some of the occasional visiting birds might linger, and this year they have. See extras for the platform in context.

We also had a wander round the adjacent North Wales Wildlife Trust reserve, Gors Maen Llwyd and admired birds and butterflies & moths (Small Copper, Small Heath, Small Tortoiseshell, Small White, Red Admiral, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Large White, Silver-Y and Northern Spinach) and a nice patch of Bog Asphodel (extra).
