First picking of our blackcurrants

The first regular Friday for several weeks where we went to the gym in the morning and while Susan was at the hospital with Doreen I went to the allotment in the high heat of the afternoon.

Edged the grass paths that I’d mowed earlier in the week, built a brassica cage and did a bit of watering.

We had our first beetroots for tea, golf ball size, very sweet but suffering from the lack of water.

Spent the remainder of the time before Susan came home washing and picking over 5lbs of blackcurrants Susan picked the other day. Cooked them ready for freezing. In another world I would have made jam; not made jam for years owing to cutting out as much sugar as possible.
