Unlikely Lad

When I spotted him
in the classroom
I did think he’d have
an empty tin can of a brain
with just fresh air
wafting around
or, at best,
a few dozy la la las
rattling around in there.
All I saw was a blank face
and a vacant stare.

But when it came to ideas
he was full of them -
he opened
and they spilled out of him.

He handed them to me on a plate
and I lapped them up.

It just shows you -
never underestimate
what an unlikely lad can do.
