Under the Montlake Cut bridge

If you know Seattle you will probably know where this is. We started our walk at the Union Bay nature preserve and walked along the edge of the bay (which is on Lake Washington), around the stadium at the U. Then, we ended up at the cut just as a big ocean-going yacht was heading through. I've never seen the bridge up from this angle. That was fun. There were several rowing shells out, looking like little tadpoles as they navigated around this big boat.

At the ponds, we saw a penta-flock of great blue herons (see extra). The 5 of them were hanging out like a jazz band, taking a break. I put it in extras because the resolution is not very good.

Also observed an osprey in its nest on a pole, one bald eagle soaring, one turtle crossing the road (to get to the other side), and lots of baby ducklings flitting around their mums. Good for a nature reserve that was a city dump for 40 years!
