A Sweet Little Tree.....and a Raft.....

    I had to go out to the nursery.....  while I was there I wandered around and got some pictures of very nice bonsai...   The extra is a picture of a Raft Bonsai....    ie, a piece of branch that is longish and live that has an attachment to a live, viable set of roots.  It is placed in bonsai potting soil (organic).  It is kept moist while the branch sends out some roots.  The only difference between a root and a branch is that one is underground and the other is not.
     Once the roots are established, the mating between the parent plant and the "raft branch" is severed and allowed to continue to develop.  Shoots come off the top which become  trees.....  you decide how many trees in your raft you want, and where, remove the extra and then you have it...
the beginning of your raft bonsai!
