Northern Chief at Hythe

A grand day out. Having visited the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway at New Romney on a cycle ride last week we decided to pay a return visit to the Railway for a ride on the line from Hythe to Dungeness taking Doreen along for the ride.

It was a shame our train to Dungeness was pulled by a diesel but we waited at Dungeness, had some lunch and caught next stream train back to Hythe. The train from Dungeness was in the charge of Hercules as far as New Romney where Northern Chief took over for the remaining journey back to Hythe.

After running around the train and being turned on the turntable Northern Chief forms today’s blip as she waits to take the 4.10pm departure to Dungeness.

We spent a while in the late afternoon perusing the shops of Hythe before travelling down the coast to The Pilot near Dungeness for their legendary fish and chips. On the wall of the pub were photo images by taken by Gill Copeland, who it turns out is taking a photo a day for the rest of her life. I wonder if she knows about blip?

As the sun set we walked across age shingle beach to the waters edge to watch the tide roll in and enjoy the solitude and sharp light at the furthest south and east of the UK. I’ll post some shots from here in extras later.
