The march ....of gentrification.

I've been travelling to and fro to Commercial Street E1 since January 2012. In all that time the building opposite the office has been known as Ed pants with its broken off sign and pictures of ladies in lingerie. But over that 6 and a half years the gentrification if E1 has continued, a pincer movement, south from Spitalfields and north from Whitechapel Rd. The advance accelerated after the 2012 Olympics and the down geek, Buffy, Princess Alice pub, became the trendy Culpeper's. But still We pants reigned supreme over Commercial At with At Mary Axe (the Gherkin) lording it in the background. Today it appears to have succumbed with men ripping up the timber roof and scaffolding shoring up next door. I wonder what comes next.

And in the extra LNER is proving the zeitgeist, although there may be less enthusiasm when the train crosses the border around the time the match starts.

Edit:
Ah well hopes dashed. I do feel for these young players and the outstanding Gareth Southgate.

An unexpected cultural reference experience on the train. Ended up talking to Les McKeown's wife, Keiko and guiding her through Waverley. She was on her way, alone, to Alan Longmuir's funeral. I was never a fan of the Bay City Rollers (too old?) but I did once see them across S Clerk Street in 1972/73. Interesting day.
