Vøringfossen

A short drive from the campsite up to Vøringfossen. The road is impressive, performing multiple swooping turns, including at least one 540° helix inside the mountain to gain altitude.

We peer carefully over the unprotected 200 metre precipice into the cataract of surging waters below. After an ice cream we decide to hike to the bottom of the waterfall. With the kids this is about 45 minutes each way, plus some time to get a soaking in the blast zone at the bottom of the 163 metre main drop. Freya declares it to be “awesome”, which for once seems appropriate.
