"Lest We Forget"

++++++++

...Remembrance Day...the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month ...

... Poppy Day today...symbolizing remembrance and commemorating those brave souls who have made the supreme sacrifice in the times of war.

The following poem, or part thereof, was penned down by my maternal Grandfather while service in France, in the Medical Corp. during the Great War of of 1914-1918. He wrote some beautiful poems and testimonials and I thought I would
share this one with you..

"Lights of Peace thy rays are shining,
Thro' the clouds of War and Death
Tells us of a Hell that's ending
Bringing hopes of Peace and Rest.

May thy rays keep growing stronger
And brighter than the cloudless sun
May thy shafts keep penetrating
Hearts and Minds to banish wrongs.

Lights of Peace thy beams will help us
Just to Honour those who fought -
For the Liberty and Freedom
Oh, what Sacrifices, oh, what cost.

Thou shalt teach haughty Nations
That their knees to do right shall bend,
For their Sins to Civilization
To their God - and to their Friends."
H.G.C. 1914-1918
