"Incidents From A Soldier's Life" ...

...Best to look at this on LARGE...
...Like many young people during the 1st World War and the Second World War, one of my Uncles joined up - in both eventually - but during the 1st W.W. he put his age UP to 17 years and off he went..

...He went to France and many other places, in the Army, he joined his father, my Grandfather in France- as Grandfather had put his age DOWN so that he could go away as well.. Thankfully both returned, and when they did Uncle decided to write a book - he was 20 years old by then, and then, he wrote another book - this would have helped the young man no doubt, by putting his thoughts down on paper, and eventually in print..

... He went from door to door to sell his freshly printed book(s) for 1/- with all proceeds to go toward the wounded airmen, and women, sailors and soldiers..which it did...

...He did well and raised a lot as far as I'm aware..I have a photocopy from the City Library of one of his books titled above, just little stories which were Incidents From A Soldier's Life - the other book - there is no trace of but it's listed as one of his books..

...During the 2nd World War - he then put his age DOWN to join once again, and spent several years in Malaya, and Borneo and died as a Prisoner Of War at Sandakan, in 1945, just before the War ended..He was 45 then..

...My Uncle's story ofcourse is just one story...no, we shan't forget them...

Ps: Thankyou to all who commented on my yesterday's blip re the Mulching Machine at the local dump - I'm still cleaning the dust out of here...and yes, red dust and all - was in the Spotlight today..
