Chickagami Park - Summer

Out to hike in the coolness of trees, we headed to this Geauga County park for the first time. Chickagami is Chippewa for “large water” but we saw none today. We avoided the lake due to the heat and misquitoes. The creek beds on the Hickory Trail were totally dry and plants at the forest edge were burnt to a crisp.

We met some delightful Amish women who helped us unhitch a tangled horse and move it and the carriage left by a young man and his gal in the blistering sun. Deep into the woods we saw Amish families picnicing at the campgrounds. Two wee souls peeked at us from carriages.

We took unfamiliar roads home through beautiful Geauga County farmland and rolling hillsides. It’s great to be home and dry now in the air conditioning.

Belated thanks for your kind comments and gifts on my blips these last few days. Wishing you a terrific week :)
