Wound up in Wexford

Barefoot in the kitchen

W tells me there is a very misogynistic South African quote - women should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.  He's just posing here - no cooking was happening.  We'd earlier had a lovely salad, which he had prepared, and were about to eat a fruit salad prepared by my own fair hands as desert.  But I needed him to model the apron.

We don't really do birthday or Christmas presents, but we do just buy each other things occasionally and call them "birthday presents" even if it is 6 months to the next birthday.  In fact, it was W's birthday quite recently.  He had seen an apron that didn't tie on, and was keen to see if we could get one - he dislikes trying to tie bows behind his back.  In fact, the cheapest of these so called Japanese aprons were silly prices, and we were worried whether they would be roomy enough for our XL frames.  So instead, I opted to sew one.  I bought a pattern over the internet, which involved printing up and then fastening together 20 pieces of A4 paper.

He also, when we were staying in North Yorkshire, commented on how much he fancied having an old fashioned enamel pudding dish - so I had to purchase a set of these to use when wearing the apron.

It's been another hot day.  I spent the morning finishing this apron, and then doing some cross stitching.  Once it cooled down, we spent a couple of hours in the garden, watering and doing a bit of weeding.  There were a few drops of rain this evening, but not even enough to wet the ground.  The forecast this evening is for at least another week of dry sunny weather - the poor garden is parched.
