Joy unconfined

Sarah and I went down to the secret lake, doubting that it would be fourth time lucky over last year and this that Mrs Grebe would successfully hatch a brood. So imagine our delight when we discovered the grebe family contained not one but two chicks, sailing on father's back, as we had read was normal practice for the Great Crested Grebe, to provide at least some protection from the multiple dangers that lurk from herons to greedy fishermen complaining the grebes steal their fish. Quite apart from the question of whose fish they actually are, as you can see from extras, they only take tiddlers, quite enough to feed all the family. Anyway in our household there is much celebration at this minor triumph of survival. Will keep you updated.
