High Summer, Pillbox Pond

The lush growth around Pillbox Pond at the foot of the Parkland at Sheffield Park - a site whose recovery I have been recording regularly (see, for example here and here) since its restoration back in the autumn of 2016.

The lushness of the vegetation in today's scene in contrast with the view here 13 months ago is particularly encouraging - especially considering the dry weather we've been having this year.

I was especially pleased to notice the bright patches of Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) in full flower on the outer bank of the pond and on the island.
