Gorge Downwinder

More racing. This time I captured the surfskis heading out to the start. People groused about having to wear the official race t-shirt, but I like the unified color scheme. Wilson's out there in near center, with what looks like a tattooed boat.

They said this was the biggest wind in a long time--and that persuaded  290 of the 750 registrants to drop out. One of the details from the pre-race talk was that the safety boat couldn't make it out to the start line. The waves were that big.

Paul and I parked ourselves at Mitchell Point to watch what we could see with binoculars, and at some point Paul got into a lengthy discussion with tourists about how the current went one way and the wind and waves (and racers) went the other. They could hardly believe it.
