Englishman in the Balkans

Crkva Gospe od Prizidnice

Apologies for the hiatus.

Life got in the way, but "we are back".

Before we arrived on the island of Čiovo, we had a sort of "things to see and do" briefing.

Of course, as is normal in the Western Balkans, coffee bars and restaurants featured heavily.

One of the places of interest that struck me immediately, was an old church that was built right on the edge of the southern coast of the island.

We were told that it was slightly remote, and required a small walk from a car park, but offered super views over the Adriatic.

No beaches however.

And so, yesterday we got in the car, and left Mastrinka for Slatine, a village located on the Eastern tip of Čiovo.

Of course, we didn't check Google maps.

We simply thought everything would be so easy to find.

And it is.

Unless you get confused by road signs. It's a habit with us it seems.

As we negotiated Slatina, we found the sign to Crkva Gospe od Prizidnice.

The road did look narrow and an adjacent sign did show just for pedestrians and bikes.

And so we parked and walked up the hill in front of us for some 2.5 kilometres.

I have to point out here, that after 500 metres or so we were "over taken" by the occasional CAR!

Whatever.

There is a car park some 400 metres from Crkva Gospe od Prizidnice.

We had been told that. Right?

It's not huge admitedly, but if you don't like walking it's there!

The walk along the coast to the church DOES offer stunning views, and it's a most enjoyable experience.

The church itself is small, and was closed (at least while we were there).

Nevertheless, we were glad to have seen it and would walk there again.

Disclaimer: We had a 14 year old with us that is in the stage of life that considers what adults like as boring!

No complaints from said 14 year old, so two thumbs up I would say?

Crkva Gospe od Prizidnice is really recommended!

Hope you enjoy the video?
