Anne's Daily Encounters

1Km up and cheers

Today the route back from Sougia on the South coast of Crete back to Chania on the North coast. A gorgeous roadtrack over the mountains and along villages and hamlets with lovely old Byzantine churches, of which some we'd visited before, last year around. Αs the island Crete rises out from the sea up to over 2000 meters hight, the winding roads over the slopes have often a steep rise and fall and many turns... at home now and I feel like walzing over the countryside and mountains.

The weather is perfect, not too hot and the air bright and clean giving a super panorama and in full colour. Sheep and goats on the mountainous roads from Paleochora up to Sklavopoula and in the area round Omalos and the start of Samaria Gorge at 1100 meters hight.

This blip is taken at the taverna at the start of the Samaria Gorge ~  we had a great view from there upon the peaks of the Levka Ori... over 2200 meters hight. The grey wall of Gingilos is the backdrop from this taverna scene.
